2008-volvo-s40-v50-get-refresher-course

For 2008, Volvo is giving its lower end sedan and wagon models, the S40 and V50, a mid-life refresher to bring their styling closer in line to Volvo’s new design language, first seen on the new S80, before they’re due for a full redesign.

Both models get a fully redesigned front end that features new headlights, a horizontal grille with a larger Volvo badge, and a redesigned front fascia. To better separate the two models, the V50 gets a three-piece lower fascia, while the S40 receives a single-piece design. The rear ends of both get slightly updated as well, with slimmer taillights and a redesigned bumper.

The interior was revamped to maximize storage space by redesigning the front door speakers, center console, and passenger arm rest, turning previous unused space into useful storage compartments for small items.

Interior upholstery gets a minor update as well. Base interiors are now available with green upholstery, while higher end interior trims receive a finer grain leather. Engine choices remain the same, but the available 2.5-liter turbocharged I5 gets a slight boost to 230 horsepower.
